5 Easy Relaxing Craft Ideas to Recharge After a Long Week

We’ve all been there! You had a hectic week and all you want to do is relax. In this post, we’ll talk about 5 easy relaxing craft ideas you can try this weekend to unwind, practice a little creative self care, and give yourself a moment to breathe.

5 Easy Relaxing Craft Ideas to Recharge After a Long Week

These easy relaxing craft ideas to are perfect for slowing down, reducing stress, and giving yourself a break from the daily hustle. If you’re looking for simple, screen-free activities to unwind, this list is for you.

We all understand how busy life gets. Whether you’re a working mom, balancing multiple responsibilities, or just navigating adulthood in this fast-paced world, making time to recharge isn’t selfish— it’s necessary. But instead of another night of binge-watching that new show, how about getting cozy with a craft? Because let’s be real, we could all use less screen time and engaging in creative hobbies can leave you feeling even more refreshed.

So here are 5 easy crafts ideas to relax after a long day:

1. Coloring Kept Simple

Now this might be an unpopular opinion but sometimes the adult “stress-relief” coloring books can feel… stressful. I totally get how the intricate mandala designs can be relaxing if you need something repetitive to focus on. But to be honest, sometimes after a long week I need to keep it simpler.

You can get a trendy coloring book, but honestly, even the dollar store kids’ coloring books are a perfect way to unwind. Bonus points for nostalgia if you find a character that you loved as a kid.

You don’t need anything fancy. Grab your favorite markers, color pencils, or crayons and just start! The one thing I love about coloring is how easy it is. This makes it one of the best low effort craft ideas for busy people, because there’s no planning involved. Just sit down and color!

2. Collage

Creating a collage is a low-stakes way to craft. Grab a stack of old magazines you have lying around, scissors, glue, and paper. That’s it!

You can put an inspirational twist on it and create a vision board, or keep it simple! Recently, I needed a quick 15-minute reset after work, so I chose a color and created a small collage on an index card using only images that fit that theme.

It wasn’t anything deep, but it was a moment to lean into creative play. And honestly, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. So take even just a few minutes and reconnect with your imagination through collaging.

3. Scrapbook to Reconnect to Joy

After a tough week, sometimes what you need is joy.

But if you’re an introvert like me, you might need some alone time to recharge before catching up with friends and family. This is why I love scrapbooking! It allows me to reconnect with happy memories, even when I don’t have the energy to leave the house. You can pull out old photos or print recent ones out from your phone. I love my Instax printer for this.

Plus, after finishing up a scrapbook page, I’ll often send a photo of it to the people I love. It’s a simple way to reconnect and say “I was thinking of you today.” I just love how crafts have a way of helping us connect with those we care about.

4. Junk Journal

If you’re looking for a craft that doesn’t require practice or buying anything new, junk journaling is just the thing.

Grab a notebook and the little scraps that have been collecting in your purse over the week— receipts, candy wrappers, notes, etc. and get creative with them. Anything goes here!

You can layer them, glue them in, write some notes into the margins… whatever you want, really. It’s messy, but in a good way. It’s another low-stakes craft that as a bonus, helps keep things out of the landfill.

5. Watercolor (Yes, You Can Do This)

Hear me out on this one. I know watercolor can sound intimidating if you don’t consider yourself “artistic.” But watercolor is surprisingly forgiving and super soothing. There’s something calming about the feeling of dipping the brush into water and watching the colors spread across the paper.

You don’t have to do anything complicated! Look up a beginner tutorial or even just play with blending colors and focus on just creating abstract shapes.

You might be pleasantly surprised to find that you actually love what you create. I personally like creating bookmarks or simple birthday cards with watercolor paints. It turns a relaxing moment into something you can later gift to someone.

A Gentle Reminder for the Recovering Perfectionists

In case you’re anything like me, I might need to remind you… this is supposed to be fun.

If the finished product doesn’t look like the tutorial you followed, that’s okay. If you colored outside of the lines, that’s okay too. The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is presence.

No matter which craft you choose, these easy relaxing craft ideas are a simple way to practice self care and recharge after a long week. Just make sure to slow down and enjoy the moment. You can even set the mood with calming music and a cozy cup of tea. But remember, creative hobbies can only reduce stress if we let go of the pressure to make a masterpiece.

So don’t over-complicate it. Let it be simple, let it be messy, but just make something mindfully.
